From 21-23 November 2023, the full consortium came together in Addis Ababa to present and review the (preliminary) results of the Addis Ababa Living Lab project. The first day was dedicated to the exchange of findings within the consortium itself. The second day, in a World-Café workshop, possible statements for a policy paper were discussed in-depth, with the collaboration of many invited external stakeholders. In the afternoon, a playful session was held to explore urban planning in the context of Addis Ababa. By the means of an interactive game, different teams had to negotiate alternatives for developing an imaginary site into a resilient and efficient neighbourhood. The last day RAAS architects and Mecanoo presented the design of a pilot project for urban resettlement to an invited audience of stakeholders in the field of governance, city planning, housing development , design, research and education. Founding principle of RAAS, Rahel Shaw, chaired a panel discussion with key stakeholders on how this design for an affordable housing cluster could be further developed in the future.
In a second panel discussion chaired by Anteneh Tesfaye and Frederique van Andel, discussions were instigated on how to educate the next generation of planners and designers that will have to deal with the challenge of fast urbanizing cities, such as Addis Ababa. How to build capacity, and what are still research gaps that need to be filled? During all days an overview of the works packages was presented as an exhibition and became the centre of discussion during the breaks.
