A product of the Global Housing Research Seminar, the story of ‘Gerji World’ is the result of a micro-ethnographic research based on a student visit to Gerji district in Addis Ababa. Using graphic techniques borrowed from the architecture discipline, this graphic novel brings together representations of everyday life in the neighborhood, depicting the overlap between ethnographic patterns and the spatial context they may shape. With colorful digital visuals, the story is told through the eyes of Abyi, an Ethiopian man who travels from the Netherlands to reencounter his family in Addis Ababa. Images of his return home provide unique translations of the traditions and culture of Gerji district, bringing to light important aspects regarding the dwelling conditions in the area.
