Integrating values and principles of circularity in the built environment, “Towards Circular Neighborhoods” seeks to provide higher living standards while translating current positive patterns of dwellers in Kolfe Keranio. Via the exploration of alternative design strategies capable of integrating informal social network with living patterns of low-income neighborhood, this design hypotheses enables the accommodation of current residents while welcoming an ambitious 4800 additional dwellers to the area. Although maintaining the original logic of its streets, Mikova proposes street hierarchy adjustments that enable dwellers to stay in touch with the ground level and its collective spaces. Also seeking to value the tendency of the locals to appropriate space and gradually expand their dwellings, the project fosters neighborhood facilities that provide residents with proper tools and capabilities for these endeavors.
