Founder and Principal of RAAS Architects, Ethiopia, Rahel blends her industry know-how with her passion for people and identity, constantly using architecture to bring about positive impact. With contemporary ideas connected to local knowledge and contexts, she has designed and led a wide body of work including residential, mixed use, embassies, institutional, hospitality, health care and landscape projects. A graduate of the Addis Ababa University EiABC and a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Rahel has been recognized for various awards in Ethiopia and abroad including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and RAAS named among the 50 best architecture firms 2020 by DOMUS magazine. Through her social initiative ‘abRen’ she supports young professionals through mentorship, research platforms, practice-based learning and knowledge transfer while passionately engaging in the advocacy for equity in design practices in Ethiopia and the rest of Africa.
