Taking into account climatic themes that may not always be associated with issues of rapid urbanization, “Inclusive Neighborhoods Across Urban Waters” targets overlooked water-related concerns in Addis Ababa’s recent housing developments. The research touches upon the unsustainable relationship between the urban waters and the urban neighborhoods in which they flow, bringing special attention to three primary themes: flooding, river pollution, and governmental urban projects. Through an investigation that emphasizes the alarming issue of unsafe water supplies in urban contexts, Crijns proposes designs that are not only more adaptive to flooding conditions, but also capable of making rivers cleaner and more attractive to local residents. Proposing a green axis that accounts for dry and flooding zones simultaneously, the design a neighborhood that may foster synergy between housing, ecology, flood protection and amenity.
