Diving into the beautiful array of traditions in Ethiopian culture, “The Exposition of Aspirations” seeks to embrace multiple ethnic groups within a smart replicable strategy that has the potential to transform into a specific matter. Through an exploration of the national love for coffee, spices, music, dance, and cooking, Ridder explores the cultural elements that build common ground across communities nationwide, seeking to make room for the relevant activities and characteristics that might be significant to introduce and weave back into future urban schemes. By purposefully scaling building blocks that foster inner courtyard spaces, the design caters for the possibility of implementing shared Idirs in all compounds. Implementations like such not only attentively fill unwanted dead ends and empty plots with collective spaces, but also promote an active neighborhood in which traditional common activities speak louder than social differences.
